Maddy Skeen
Art Therapist
As an art therapist, I work individually with children, adolescents, and adults. My practice is grounded in psychodynamic, systemic, and humanistic frameworks.
I aim to meet clients where they are, offering a safe, trauma-informed and collaborative space to explore change that feels personally meaningful. I see therapy as a space to practice liberation, safety, and the imaginative work of dreaming up new ways to live out what matters most.
I offer an approach grounded in strengths-based talk therapy, optionally supported through the use of provided art materials- no artistic skills required. Art materials can be integrated to explore symbolic content, or to explore on a sensory level that focuses on sensation and embodiment rather than image-making. Sessions are always oriented around each individual's level of comfortability and art-making is never mandatory or expected, we focus on whatever feels most supportive in the moment. My approach centers most fundamentally in humility, non-judgment, and openness.
My practice is rooted in disability justice and anti-oppressive care. I strongly value the depathologization of distress- in my work in private practice this means honoring and elevating resistance to systemic forces. I support people navigating anxiety and depression, grief and loss, difficult life transitions, relational difficulties or attachment oriented concerns, academic/career-oriented pressure, bullying, social isolation, gender exploration and self-discovery, body image and self esteem, environmental grief and anxiety, as well as neurodivergence or sensory challenges.
